When using Windows PCs these days you need to be even more careful of the programs that you download and run. Although there are multiple spyware checkers out there Winpooch, which calls itself the opensource watch-dog for Windows, claims that it offers you more control.
Winpooch uses API hooking thus allowing you full control over what a program can and cannot do. As an example you could deny it writing to the registry or even access the Internet. Great for setting up a sandbox in which to test a new application. [via digg.com]
